Pros & Cons of Using Tourney HUD Filters
I received an email from a customer awhile ago, asking about how to display data based on stack size. I’m going to include his email to me and my response back to him – hopefully this helps.

Hello Pokerhuds, first of all congratulations for all your good work doing awesome huds.
Let me introduce myself my name is “Joe” Im Portuguese and I play 180man turbo.
I have one question regarding different stack sizes for the stats. Lets give an example my opponent is in the sb shoves 6bbs in the sb I call and now he doubled up. And his stats shows he has atleast one more atempt steal from sb, however he is
shoving any two cards in that spot and now he is on the sb again and with 13bb isnt shoving ATC like in the other situation , and now I have a tough spot because the hud says he atempt steal but with 13bbs he isnt playng the same way so that stat
can confuse me to play wrong, as Im multitabling.
I took an example of a sb vs bb situation, but it could be the call bb to a sb steal stat , and in that situation, lets say im in the sb with 100bbs and 3bbs effective and my oponent in the bb with 3bbs should be calling at least 50% vs me, so when he
calls the hud increase the call bb to a sb steal stat , but after he wons that hand im in the sb again and the hud says he is capable to call in the bb,but now he has more than 6 bbs and he should be playing with more caution than with the other stack size.
So what would be the best solution is to have different stack sizes at least for those stats and positions I talked about, is it possible to do that?
Sorry for my english.
Kind Regards, “Joe”
My Response Regarding Tourney HUD Filters
Let my start off by saying “thanks” for making a purchase from the site!
I understand the situation that you’re describing. With the current version of Holdem Manager, the only way to do what you are asking is to use the “Tourney HUD Filters”. What the Tourney HUD Filters do is display stats for an opponent ONLY when he has a specific stack size range.
As an example, you can program it so when a player has a stack size of 3 bb’s the stats shown on the HUD only include hands played when he had a stack size of, say 2 to 4 bb’s. You could also make it so if he has less than 10 bb’s it only shows stats for when he has 1-10 bb’s, you pick whatever ranges you want.
There’s a drawback to this. If you don’t have any hands on a player when he has been short stacked, you will not have any stats show up on the HUD. You are essentially filtering out all of the hands he played with 5 bb’s or more. When I have tried using this feature I felt that I was losing more than I was gaining — but I don’t play a lot of tourneys so my tourney database is small. If you play with the same players enough, your database may be big enough to make this effective.
Without using the filter, you can get the SB Raised stat from the tourney pop up, by hovering over the spade icon on your HUD. The tourney pop up filters the stats by bb’s, but only in blocks from 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, etc. Unfortunately, this won’t help you find out how often they call from the big blind.
The lack of data on players when they have a very small stack in bb’s is the limiting factor here. Without enough hand history data you’re just not going to get much useful information. As a side note on this, you won’t be able to filter for specific stats, the filter will be applied to the entire HUD. This could frequently leave you with ZERO stats to refer to when you’re in one of those tough spots.
In these super short stacked situations I prefer to use the Nash Heads Up (SB vs BB situations) Push / Fold chart in combination with a player’s overall aggression tendencies. If you don’t have this already, here’s a link: Nash Push / Fold Chart
There is a good thread on 2+2 that covers the use of the Nash chart quite well (the fifth post down, by “gedanken,” provides a great summary): Nash Explanation
The Holdem Manager site has an excellent video that shows how to set up the Tourney Filters and probably explains them much better than I did. You can watch it right here: Tourney HUD Filters Video
I hope that helps. Let me know if you need anything else.
